  1. National Cybersecurity League Competition is a series of challenges in different subjects of cryptography, network scanning, exploitation, and log and network traffic analysis. Before the main competition, the NCL gave competitors a Gym, which was the challenges in last year for us to have better prepare for the competition. Reading through some of the questions, I realized that I didn’t have much knowledge in this field. I didn’t know how to use given tools to do the tasks in cracking password, cryptography, scanning network, or even know how to distinguish different encoded characters such as base64, hex, md5, etc. Luckily, the members in Women in Cybersecurity had helped me a lot in preparing me for this competition. They taught me a lot of useful technics in order to approach the problems and understand them more throughout to know which tools to use. In the main event, I was able to apply all of what I had learned from the training into the competitions. I also developed new skill for myself that assisted me in every single problem I had encountered: Googling. Since the competition didn’t forbid us to use the open source, in fact, they encouraged us to Googling as much as we could for more knowledge outside of classroom. It was a 2-day-competition with tear because of looking at the computer screen for too long and stress and I only got into the top 400 over 4000, but it was a fun experience. I have learned a lot from it and from other competitors, too. I would love to join another competition with cybersecurity related challenges again, and I believe that next time, I’m going to get in to top 100.
